Plot summary
The incumbent Richard McIver holds a seat on the Seattle City Council and has more money and more supporters. Grant Cogswell, a liberal music critic with a passion for the Seattle Monorail Project, decides to run against him. Grant is enthusiastic and eccentric, and he pulls his friend Phil Campbell, a journalist who recently lost his job, into the campaign. Phil supplies the strategy and Grant the blind passion, and the pair are given no chance at the start, though the combination makes Grant a contender.
