Plot summary
The school year at Midtown School of Science and Technology ends, with classmates who vanished five years earlier returned unaged. Peter Parker, still mourning Tony Stark, joins a summer field trip to Europe with Ned Leeds, MJ, Flash Thompson, Betty Brant and Brad Davis, and plans to tell MJ he likes her. In Venice a Water Elemental floods the city; Quentin Beck arrives, defeats it, and is hailed as Mysterio. Nick Fury hands Peter Stark's glasses, which command an artificial intelligence, E.D.I.T.H., and an orbital weapons supply, and asks for his help. Beck says he came from an alternate reality whose Elementals killed his family. The next attack is predicted in Prague, so Fury diverts the class there.

J. K. Simmons was approached as late as possible before release to reprise J. Jonah Jameson, the role he played in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, to keep the mid-credits cameo a surprise. Director Jon Watts never considered another actor, and Simmons called Raimi for his blessing.- An uncredited actor was originally cast as Flash Thompson's father in the airport scene, but Tony Revolori pitched producer Chris Buongiorno on using Flash's butler Gerald instead. The crew shot both versions and chose the butler's.
- Partnering with companies including Dr Pepper, Papa John's Pizza and Burger King, the film's promotional marketing value reached $288 million, the largest for any film ever at the time.
- On August 18, 2019, the film surpassed Skyfall to become Sony Pictures' highest-grossing film worldwide, and it was the first Spider-Man film to gross over $1 billion.
- Zach Barack became the first openly transgender actor to appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
- Costume maker Ironhead Studio built a skull cap with built-in fans so the suit's goggles would not steam up, plus a magnetic bellows system so the goggles could be pulled off easily but not fall off during action sequences.
