Clarence Williams III
Biography
Clarence Williams III was an American actor who first became interested in acting after wandering onto a stage at a Harlem theater. He made his Broadway debut in The Long Dream in 1960 and later earned a Tony Award nomination for his performance in Slow Dance on the Killing Ground. His breakout television role came as undercover cop Linc Hayes on The Mod Squad, which aired from 1968 to 1973. After the series ended, he worked across genres, including the role of Prince's father in Purple Rain and appearances in Deep Cover and Tales from the Hood. He also had a recurring part in the Mystery Woman films and played Bumpy Johnson in American Gangster. He died in 2021.
