Catherine Spaak
Biography
Catherine Spaak was a French-Italian actress, singer, and television host who became a star of Italian commedia all'italiana. Born in Boulogne-Billancourt, she trained in ballet before abandoning it. She made her first screen appearance in the short L'hiver (1959) and had a small uncredited part in Le Trou (1960). Her role in Sweet Deceptions (1960) brought wider attention, and she became a teenage star in Italy, with her hairstyle and fashion widely imitated. Between ages 15 and 18 she took leading roles in at least 12 films. Later credits included For Love and Gold (1966), Adultery Italian Style (1966), Hotel (1967), Diary of a Telephone Operator (1969), The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971), and Take a Hard Ride (1975). She also recorded albums and originated a role in the musical Cyrano in 1979. She co-hosted Forum from 1985 to 1988 and hosted the talk show Harem from 1988 to 2002. She died in 2022.

Beyond film
Spaak was the first to play Rossana in Cyrano, a musical by Riccardo Pazzaglia and Domenico Modugno, in 1979. This Cyrano had no connection to the Anthony Burgess and Michael J. Lewis show of the same title.
A change of course
Spaak hosted the talk show Harem for 16 years, from 1988 to 2002, after her film career declined in the 1980s.
