Ronald Howard

An English actor and writer, Ronald Howard began his working life as a newspaper reporter after attending Tonbridge School and Jesus College, Cambridge. He was born in London, and his father was the actor Leslie Howard. He made his official film debut in While the Sun Shines (1947), after an uncredited part in Pimpernel Smith (1941) was cut. He appeared in The Queen of Spades (1949) and later in The Browning Version (1951). On television he played Will Scarlet in The Adventures of Robin Hood and took the lead role in the 1954 Sherlock Holmes series, which ran for 39 episodes. He worked mainly in British B films through the 1950s and 1960s, especially The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964), and had guest roles in American and British shows. In the mid-1970s he put aside acting to run an art gallery, and in the 1980s he wrote a biography of his father. He died in 1996.
