Plot summary
When global terrorism pushes America to reinstate the draft, three friends receive induction notices that give them thirty days before they must report. Aaron Feller, a novelist who feels unprepared for a soldier's life but is sure he should serve, trains with a Bowflex machine that keeps collapsing and a therapist, Dr. Reynolds, who seems disengaged. George Rifkin, a corporate attorney, wants to stay with his wife Molly, who has recently survived cancer, and he believes the war is wrong, so he looks for ways out of the draft. Dixon, a cab driver, has no doubts about serving until he falls for Patricia, a sociology student, and his questions stop being simple.
