Plot summary
In the atomic world, the Core sends his children, the photons, out from every star to bring light and knowledge to the universe. The Void, who existed before the Big Bang, hates the universe and commands an army of anti-matter against him, and a battle rages at the edge of the solar system. In the Hall of Destiny, Dave, a young photon overdue for his journey to the surface, is afraid to leave. The Ranger, a neutrino scout, breaks through the fighting to the Sun with a message for the Cassini Space Core Commander; hunted by Gell-Mann ghosts, she hands the scroll to Dave and asks him to deliver it. Dave sails out of the Sun, meets Jammer, a proton who rides the solar winds, and sets off across the solar system.
