Brent Spiner

Biography

Brent Spiner is an American actor who worked largely in the theater before becoming famous as the android Data. Born in Houston, he relocated in the early 1970s to New York City and appeared on Broadway and off-Broadway, among other productions in Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George. He was cast as Data in 1987 and stayed with Star Trek: The Next Generation for seven seasons, then played the character in four films, among them Star Trek: Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002). His turn in First Contact brought him a 1997 Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor, and he picked up a nomination in that same category for Independence Day. He returned as Data in Star Trek: Picard, gave voice to the Joker in Young Justice, and counted The Aviator (2004) and Material Girls (2006) among his screen credits, plus a Broadway role in 1776.
