Plot summary
The synthetic skin formula that Peyton Westlake keeps refining still breaks down after 99 minutes in light, and he pays for the research by robbing criminals as the vigilante Darkman. Robert G. Durant, comatose since their last encounter, wakes up, gathers former associates and has Dr. Alfred Hathaway broken out of prison. Hathaway had started designing particle-beam weaponry, and Durant wants the design finished so the weapons can be sold on the black market. Wearing a disguise and a false name, Westlake meets David Brinkman, a scientist who has pushed past the 99-minute limit, and suggests they work together. Brinkman agrees, and Westlake briefly meets his sister Laurie. Durant wants Brinkman's lab, one of the few city buildings with the power his plans require.
