Plot summary

Los Angeles detective Max Dire is buckling under the strain of the job, and his wife, Liza, says he carries his work home. Adam Garou, a high-ranking officer who has cut crime in other big cities, asks Max to join a weekly meeting at his apartment, where officers in difficulty, among them Casey Spencer and Ramon Perez, gather. The regulars credit Garou with turning their fortunes around, and Garou, who calls Max a good detective, urges him to work through his troubles instead of leaving the force. The group's activities also include vigilante missions against criminals, and each member injects themselves with a chemical Garou produces that leaves them stronger and seemingly impervious to injury.
