Plot summary
Dumdone's variety show at a Harlem theater is short a magician, and Butterfly, his secretary, brings him the news. Lola, his fiancée, comes into the office, and he gives her a pearl necklace. As she leans forward to kiss him, a stranger appears beside them and takes the kiss instead. The stranger says his name is Dusty and that he is a magician, and asks for an audition. On stage, Dusty puts Lola and the necklace into one of two large cabinets and makes her disappear, but she does not come back. Dumdone calls the police, who find Dusty in the office flirting with Butterfly. A police sergeant suggests Dusty repeat the trick with four officers as his subjects, and the four officers vanish and come back inside the cabinet.
