Plot summary
Aloysius T. McKeever spends his winters in other people's houses while the owners are away, taking little so that nothing is missed. For three years running he has chosen the Manhattan mansion of Michael J. O'Connor, a self-made magnate who is away for the season. This winter McKeever shares the house with Jim Bullock, a veteran who lost his apartment, and Trudy, an eighteen-year-old runaway.

- Gale Storm, who had been the studio's musical star for years, rehearsed the film's four songs before production began, but director Roy Del Ruth told her that her vocals would be dubbed by another singer; she wrote in her 1981 memoir, "I couldn't believe it."
- The story was originally optioned by Liberty Films in 1945 for director Frank Capra, who instead directed It's a Wonderful Life, and later that year producer-director Roy Del Ruth acquired the story himself.
