Austin Butler
Biography
Austin Butler is an American actor who started out in television, moving from Disney Channel and Nickelodeon sitcoms such as Zoey 101 into teen dramas including Life Unexpected, Switched at Birth, The Carrie Diaries and The Shannara Chronicles. Born in Anaheim, California, he got his film breakthrough as Tex Watson in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). His portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis (2022) brought wider fame and won him a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award, along with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He later appeared in The Bikeriders (2023), Dune: Part Two (2024) and Caught Stealing (2025), and starred in the miniseries Masters of the Air (2024). On stage, he made his Broadway debut in a revival of The Iceman Cometh in 2018.

Butler was discovered at thirteen when a background acting management representative approached him at the Orange County Fair, which helped him start in entertainment.
Big break
Ashley Tisdale, his co-star in Aliens in the Attic, invited Butler to try out for a lead role in Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, a High School Musical spin-off. He plays Peyton Leverette, Sharpay's love interest.
First role
In The Iceman Cometh, Butler played Don Parritt, the "lost boy," for his Broadway debut. Denzel Washington and David Morse also starred in the limited run, which began previews in March 2018 and closed that July.
Big break
Butler was cast as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's biopic Elvis, a part he called the most intimidating thing he had ever done and one that cost him about two years of sleep.
