Plot summary

At Rosie Dunne's eighteenth birthday party Alex Stewart kisses her while they are both drunk, and she has no memory of it afterward. The next day she tells him she wishes the night had never happened, and he takes that to mean she wants only friendship. Greg asks Rosie to the school dance, and she accepts once she hears that Alex may take Bethany. Rosie, whose father works as a hotel valet, dreams of running a hotel of her own, and she is accepted to study hotel management in Boston. Rosie learns that she is pregnant and says nothing to Alex, who is leaving for Harvard, so that he will not give up his studies to look after her.
