Plot summary
In a world where humans and cartoon characters live side by side, Chip and Dale met in elementary school, moved to Hollywood and became the stars of Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers in the early 1990s. A heated argument over Dale's own show, Double-O-Dale, ended both the friendship and the series. Thirty years on, Chip sells insurance and Dale, altered by CGI surgery, works the fan convention circuit. Their former co-star Monterey Jack, deep in debt to the Valley Gang over his stinky cheese habit, warns them that toons are being abducted, altered and shipped overseas to make bootlegs. Then Monty is kidnapped, and Officer Ellie Steckler, a longtime fan, urges the chipmunks to look into it themselves, starting with Monty's cheese dealer.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The villain Sweet Pete, an adult Peter Pan, was written as a play on child actors who could not keep working as adults; the team first considered an adult Charlie Brown from Peanuts before choosing Peter Pan for easier licensing, and compared him to Bobby Driscoll, the original voice of Peter Pan.
- The portrayal drew heavy criticism from critics and audiences, who called it disrespectful and insensitive with Bobby Driscoll's later life in mind; director Akiva Schaffer said there was no intention to mock any specific actor and the writers said they had not known Driscoll's history.
- Director Akiva Schaffer said the animation budget was an eighth of what a Pixar or Disney Animation film would cost, yet the animation accounted for half of the movie's total cost.
- To include non-Disney characters, the filmmakers had their owners authorize appearances through Disney's legal team after director Akiva Schaffer assured them the film was not going to make fun of their characters.
- For Roger Rabbit's cameo at the start of the film, the production brought in one of the animators who had worked on Who Framed Roger Rabbit to animate the character.
- Storyboard artist Simeon Wilkins said Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars was planned to appear in the convention hall scenes, but the character was replaced with Ugly Sonic.
