Plot summary

Charlie Townsend speaks to his private investigators through speakers in his offices and never shows his face, leaving his assistant Bosley to work alongside them. He sends Natalie Cook, Dylan Sanders and Alex Munday after Eric Knox, a software genius who built a voice-recognition system and runs Knox Enterprises, believed kidnapped by Roger Corwin, the head of the communications-satellite company Redstar. At a party Corwin holds, the Angels spot a suspicious man they had seen in surveillance footage of the kidnapping, chase him and fight him, and find Knox tied up nearby. Charlie then wants to know whether the man, whom they call the Thin Man, has stolen the software, so the Angels break into Redstar headquarters, get past the security system and plant a device inside the central computer so they can explore it remotely.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Charlie's Angels (2000)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Thandiwe Newton was reportedly close to signing on as the third Angel in 1999 but dropped out that October, saying she did not want to be 'objectified' or play racial stereotypes as Alex Munday; she went on to appear in Mission: Impossible 2 instead, and the role went to Lucy Liu.
  • Before Lucy Liu was cast, the filmmakers had also considered Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek for the role of Alex, along with singer Aaliyah, who was ruled too young, and actress Nia Long, who was judged 'too old' looking and went on to star in Big Momma's House instead.
  • Director McG later claimed Bill Murray headbutted him during filming, a story Murray flatly denied, calling the account 'bullshit.'
  • The birdsong that identifies Bosley's hideout was meant to be Alex naming a Hawaiian ʻiʻiwi in the original script, but once shooting moved closer to Hollywood the crew swapped in a Venezuelan troupial and mismatched birdsong because the production was already late and over budget and needed any bird that would perform for the camera.
