A role that slipped away
In 1971, Trebek was shortlisted to replace Ward Cornell as host of Hockey Night in Canada. Executive producer Ralph Mellanby preferred Trebek, but picked Dave Hodge because his boss objected to a mustache.
Big break
Trebek was encouraged to audition for the Jeopardy! revival by Lucille Ball, and he shot two pilots for it after original host Art Fleming declined to return due to creative differences.
A first
On June 13, 2014, Guinness World Records gave Trebek a world record. He had hosted 6,829 episodes of a game show at that time, the most of anyone.
