Michael Ward
Biography
Michael Ward was an English character actor whose screen career ran from 1947 to 1978 and took in close to eighty films. Born in 1909 in Carnmenellis, he trained and worked as a teacher before attending the Central School of Speech and Drama and making his first film appearance in 1947 in Alexander Korda's An Ideal Husband. By 1960 he had appeared in at least thirty films and was one of Britain's busiest character actors. His credits included So Long at the Fair (1950), Carry On Cabby (1963), Carry On Cleo (1964), The Big Job (1965), Carry On Screaming (1966), and Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1974). He also appeared in five Carry On films, four Norman Wisdom films, and six Boulting brothers productions. Television came to dominate his later career, with roles in The Avengers, Dixon of Dock Green, Rising Damp, and Sykes. He retired in 1978 after Revenge of the Pink Panther and died in 1997.
