Plot summary
Ebenezer Scrooge owns a London finance company and cares only for money. On Christmas Eve, he has no use for the holiday, turns down his nephew Fred Holywell's dinner invitation, grudgingly allows Bob Cratchit to take Christmas Day off, and tells two charity collectors that the poor would be better off dead. That night, the ghost of Jacob Marley, his business partner dead seven years, appears in chains forged from greed. Marley warns Scrooge that he faces the same wandering fate unless he repents, and says three spirits will visit him during the night to try to save him. Scrooge is left to face the first spirit at one o'clock.
