Plot summary
A mutt puppy is taken to a pound, and he carries flashes of a life that is not his own. He escapes and is raised by Bella, an elderly homeless woman who names him Fluke. She earns money from passing strangers, who are impressed by his ability to beat her shell game. When Bella falls ill and dies, Fluke meets Rumbo, a street-wise dog who leads him to Bert, a man who feeds them both. Fluke grows into an adult dog, and the memories of another life keep coming back to him, though he does not yet know whose they are.
