Plot summary
Spencer Davenport and his younger sister Katherine are changing planes at Hoover International Airport on Christmas Eve, flying from California to Pennsylvania to spend the holidays with their father. A blizzard cancels every flight out, and the siblings are taken to the room where the airport keeps its unaccompanied minors. There they meet Charlie Goldfinch, Donna Malone, Grace Conrad and a boy called Beef Wellington. The five slip away to roam the terminal and are caught by guards and brought back. Oliver Porter, the head of passenger relations whose own trip was canceled, wants them kept there, and Spencer, who knows Katherine expects a present by morning, asks the others to help him find one.
