Plot summary
Bob Munro is an executive at the soda company Pure Vibe, where his self-absorbed boss Todd Mallory makes his working life difficult. Bob has promised his wife Jamie and their children, Cassie and Carl, a vacation in Hawaii. At an event Todd hosts, Gretchen, a friend of Cassie's, insults him and covers his suit in soda. Todd blames Bob and threatens to fire him unless he pushes the takeover of Alpine Soda through. Bob tells the family nothing of this, rents an RV and says they are driving to the Colorado Rockies. On the road the Munros damage the vehicle and keep running into the Gornickes, a family traveling in their own RV.

- The score was written by James Newton Howard and features several members of Lyle Lovett's band: Matt Rollings on keyboards, Russ Kunkel on drums, Ray Herndon on guitar, Viktor Krauss on bass and Buck Reid on pedal steel, with solo vocals from Take 6's Alvin Chea.
- RV finished number one at the box office in its opening weekend with $16.4 million from 3,639 theaters, and went on to gross $71.7 million in North America and $15.8 million in other territories, for $87.5 million against a $50 million budget.
