Biography
Mark McKinney is a Canadian actor and comedian, born in Ottawa, who started out performing with the Loose Moose Theatre Company in Calgary before forming The Kids in the Hall with Bruce McCulloch, Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald and Scott Thompson in 1985. He is best known for that sketch troupe, playing characters including the Chicken Lady and Mr. Tyzik the Headcrusher on its television series, which ran from 1988 to 1995, and he cowrote and starred in Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy (1996). He wrote for Saturday Night Live in the mid-1980s and later returned as a cast member, and his films include the spinoff Superstar (1999) and Guy Maddin's The Saddest Music in the World (2003). He co-created and starred in Slings & Arrows from 2003 to 2006 and played Glenn Sturgis on Superstore from 2015 to 2021.

Big break
Lorne Michaels, the Saturday Night Live producer, noticed the Kids in the Hall and then gave McKinney and McCulloch jobs on the writing staff. They took the offer and worked there for one season, the notorious season 11, from 1985 to 1986.
