Plot summary
A group of insurance investigators takes on the job of finding and stopping Sakima, a Japanese saboteur who runs an espionage organization. One member of the team goes into the field as the Masked Marvel, a figure in a business suit whose face is hidden by a mask. The story holds his identity back and puts four men forward as candidates: Bob Barton, Frank Jeffers, Terry Morton and Jim Arnold. The setup reverses the usual mystery, in which the hidden figure is the villain rather than the hero, and the Marvel fights Sakima's organization while the question of which of the four he is stays open.

- David Bacon landed the role of Bob Barton in The Masked Marvel only because four actors before him had injured themselves and could not work, and during one of the serial's big fight scenes every actor but Bacon was seriously hurt.
- David Bacon was murdered just two weeks after The Masked Marvel finished production, dying moments after he got out of his car.
- Stuntman Tom Steele played the Masked Marvel in every scene except the final unmasking, wearing a mask moulded from his own face, but got no screen credit; radio actor Gayne Whitman dubbed the voice because Steele's light tenor did not sound tough.
- Because Tom Steele both played the Masked Marvel and performed other stunts and bit parts in the same serial, one scene required him to chase himself up some stairs.
- For the scene where the Masked Marvel is thrown off an enormous gas tank, Tom Steele was replaced by a dummy whose arm snagged in the rigging and was clearly ripped off, yet the hero lands with both arms intact, because serial budgets and schedules allowed retakes only in the most dire circumstances.
