Plot summary
Ruth is hard of hearing, and when she was told to place the young Frederic in the care of a pilot she misunderstood and left him with the Pirate King. He grew up among the Pirates of Penzance. On turning 21 his service ends, and he decides to live an honest life and to destroy the band. Ruth wants to go with him, but Frederic meets the daughters of Major-General Stanley and sees that Ruth is plain and old. Mabel offers her love to rescue him from piracy, and he accepts. The pirates then come back and take the young ladies, intending to marry them.
