Plot summary

The Mystery is an all-girl rock band from Baltimore with Jennie Lee on lead vocals. On graduation day she gives the valedictorian speech while her bassist Daryle agrees to marry Frankie, her high school sweetheart. The band plans to spend the summer playing at a Florida nightclub, but Jennie's older brother objects that the trip could upset her college plans, the keyboardist has quit, and a gang member wrecked their van after drummer Mooch insulted him. Jennie tells the others she borrowed a replacement vehicle, which she and guitarist Billy took from that same gang member. With a new keyboard player, Nicky, aboard, the group drives south, reaches the club after closing, fears it has missed the audition and tracks down the owner, Martin Falcon, at his beach house.

Primarily known today as Julia Roberts' first credited big-screen role, Satisfaction is also one of the few theatrical productions by either Aaron Spelling or the NBC network.
The soundtrack was billed as the work of Justine Bateman & The Mystery, but the instruments were actually played by session players, and the lead vocal on "Mr. Big Stuff" was sung by co-star Britta Phillips rather than Bateman.
Bateman took singing and guitar lessons and she and the cast rehearsed for six weeks; she could not sing, but said, "Luckily, we're just supposed to be a garage band because my voice is very far from Sarah Vaughan's."
Bateman's brother Jason, then starring in the sitcom Valerie's Family and fresh from his own starring feature debut, said of her singing: "You can bet her movie is going to do better than [my feature] Teen Wolf Too."
Bateman's Family Ties co-star Michael J. Fox had recently made a rock movie of his own, called Light of Day.
