Linda Ronstadt
Biography
Linda Ronstadt is an American retired singer and musician whose records moved through rock, folk, pop, country, soul, and other styles. Raised in Tucson, she grew up hearing Mexican music, Gilbert and Sullivan, and the Great American Songbook at home. She began performing professionally in the mid-1960s with the folk-rock group the Stone Poneys, then started a solo career that took off with the chart-topping album Heart Like a Wheel. Later successes such as Simple Dreams and Living in the USA helped make her the first female arena-class rock star. Her awards include 11 Grammys, an Emmy, a Tony nomination for her Broadway work in The Pirates of Penzance, and was added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. She retired in 2011, and the documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice appeared in 2019.
