Plot summary
Nemeny Neverwish, a fairy whom Charming's father refused to marry, cursed him so that every woman in the land adores him; the spell ends on his twenty-first birthday, taking that love with it, and only his true love can break it. Close to that birthday, Prince Philippe Charming has proposed to three princesses: Cinderella, met at a ball, Snow White, saved from an apple, and Sleeping Beauty, woken with a kiss. None of them knows about the others. His father sends him on the Gauntlet, a quest that should reveal his true love. The thief Lenore Quinonez, who robbed a royal carriage and then told the princesses that they shared a groom, is hired by their guardians to take him to Fire Mountain, where he is meant to choose a bride; she travels as a man called Lenny.
