Plot summary
Reporter Carl Kolchak, driven out of Las Vegas, heads to Seattle for another reporting job at the local paper. His editor there, Tony Vincenzo, assigns him a series of killings whose victims are belly dancers, strangled. The coroner's report says their necks were crushed in a way no person is strong enough to manage, that a few ounces of blood were drained, and that traces of rotting flesh were left on them. The police want the details kept secret and give Kolchak nothing. Researcher Titus Berry looks further back and finds similar killings in 1952 and in 1931; the outbreaks reach to 1889, and each lasts 18 days. No one believes Kolchak.
