Wally Cox
Biography
Wally Cox was an American actor whose early career grew out of stand-up comedy. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he moved into nightclub and Broadway revue work before taking the title part in the NBC sitcom Mister Peepers, which ran from 1952 to 1955. He later became a familiar character actor in more than 20 films and dozens of television episodes. His film roles included Preacher Goodman in Spencer's Mountain (1963), a sonar operator in The Bedford Incident (1965), and a drug-addicted doctor alongside Marlon Brando in Morituri (1965). On television he led The Adventures of Hiram Holliday and supplied the voice of Underdog, while also guesting on many drama and comedy series, including The Twilight Zone. Cox wrote several books, among them Mister Peepers: A Sort of Novel and My Life as a Small Boy.

Cox first drew notice on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts in 1949 with a routine about a daredevil friend named Dufo, then switched to a high-pitched song with yodels. He lost narrowly to The Chordettes but recorded the routine for RCA Victor.
