Al Lewis
Biography
Al Lewis was an American actor who started out in burlesque and vaudeville theaters and trained at a New York workshop run by Paul Mann in 1949. Born in Manhattan, he later appeared on Broadway in plays including The Night Circus, One More River and the musical comedy Do Re Mi. On television he first became well known as Officer Leo Schnauser in the sitcom Car 54, Where Are You?, which aired from 1961 to 1963, and he was best known for playing Grandpa on The Munsters, the CBS sitcom that ran from 1964 to 1966. His films included Used Cars (1980), They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), The World of Henry Orient (1964) and They Might Be Giants (1971), and he played Schnauser again in Car 54, Where Are You? (1994). He died in 2006.
