Plot summary
Scot Webster is a small-town church organist. His sister Susan Webster has come under the control of big-city gangster W. S. Bruhl. She is forced to work as a bar hostess to pay off a debt for her apartment. Scot tries to save her. Bruhl's syndicate frames Scot for the murder of one of its own men. He is sentenced to execution.

- After its release, the Milwaukee Film Commission withdrew The Monster and the Girl from theaters, calling it a "white slavery" film and objecting that it showed juries as being under gangster control, which would make justice impossible.
- A censorship board rejected the original story of The Monster and the Girl over plot elements of white slavery and homicide, so the script was rewritten to imply Susan's entrapment by Munn and to drop her forced prostitution and bar-hostess work paying off her apartment debt.
