Phillip Terry
Biography
Born in San Francisco in 1909, Phillip Terry was an American actor who began in stock theater after studying at the Royal Academy, touring British provinces for four years. He moved to Hollywood, performed in radio plays for CBS, especially Shakespearean roles, and in 1937 a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer scout heard him on air, leading to a screen test and a studio contract. Early bit parts gave way to larger roles at Paramount, including The Monster and the Girl (1941), and supporting work in Bataan (1943). At RKO he appeared in Born to Kill (1947) and starred in Seven Keys to Baldpate (1947). He acted in more than eighty films; among his best known were The Lost Weekend (1945) and To Each His Own (1946). Later he took occasional movie and television roles, including The Leech Woman (1960), and guest spots on Perry Mason, The Name of the Game and Police Woman. He died in 1993.
