Plot summary
In Whoville, the Whos are getting ready for Christmas, and the Grinch is the one resident who does not share their excitement. He lives in a cave with his dog Max, comes into town only to buy groceries, and is working out how to take Christmas away from the Whos. Six-year-old Cindy Lou Who sees how much her single mother Donna does, caring for her and her twin baby brothers, Buster and Bean. Cindy Lou writes a letter to Santa Claus asking for help, then decides she should speak to Santa face to face at the North Pole. Donna says the trip would take a month, so Cindy Lou and her friends try to trap Santa instead.

- Illumination wanted Benedict Cumberbatch to voice the Grinch in his own natural accent, but Cumberbatch argued that since the rest of the cast was American, the Grinch should sound American too.
