Pharrell Williams
Biography
Pharrell Williams is an American record producer, songwriter, musician and fashion designer. Born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, he started out in the early 1990s as one half of the Neptunes, the production duo he formed with Chad Hugo. Their work placed many songs in the Billboard Hot 100 top ten, and the pair also started N.E.R.D., a group in which Williams sang lead. He co-founded Star Trak Entertainment in 2001 and released his first solo single, Frontin', in 2003, followed by the album In My Mind in 2006. His 2013 appearance on Daft Punk's Get Lucky earned Grammy awards for Record of the Year and for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, while his own song Happy topped the chart and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. He has won 13 Grammys, was a Best Picture nominee for Hidden Figures, contributed music to the Despicable Me films, and is the subject of the animated documentary Piece by Piece (2024).
