Plot summary
A boy named Jake Pierce dies in Astoria, Oregon, seven days after he watches the tape that Samara left behind, and his death resembles the ones she caused before. Rachel Keller moved to the town from Seattle six months earlier with her nine-year-old son, Aidan, and works at The Daily Astorian under editor Max Rourke. She starts asking about the death, enters Jake's house, takes the tape and burns it. Aidan then has nightmares, his body grows cold, and marks appear on his arms. Rachel takes him to a county fair, where he photographs his reflection in a restroom and Samara appears. On the drive home, deer attack them. Max takes mother and son in, and when Rachel runs a bath, Aidan panics at the water.
