Plot summary
In December 2018 in Lowell, Massachusetts, Teddy has lost his Christmas spirit since his father died, but his younger sister Kate still believes in Santa. On Christmas Eve their mother Claire leaves for a hospital shift, leaving Teddy in charge. They set up a cord across the living room and a camera to catch Santa, then fall asleep there. Kate wakes when Santa appears, and she and Teddy climb into his sleigh behind him. Startled, Santa loses control, and the sleigh crashes in Chicago. Santa explains he must recover his reindeer, hat, and gift sack to finish deliveries and keep Christmas spirit from falling further. Kate and Teddy offer to help him, hoping to stay off the naughty list.

- The film's cover of Elvis Presley's "Santa Claus Is Back in Town" is performed by Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul with Kurt Russell on lead vocals, and the band recorded it with Russell at Steven's studio in New York.
