Plot summary
During the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush, John Thornton prospects in the Yukon region of Canada, scraping a living from harsh, bitterly cold country. Unscrupulous rivals and the hazards of nature stand against him. Thornton befriends Buck, a German Shepherd, but the dog has a history of his own: he was taken from a family home and carried far to the north, where he is put to hauling sleds. The man and the animal become friends and labor as a team to survive in the frozen North, and Buck's help is a great support to Thornton in the extreme conditions of the territory.
