Plot summary
Skip Robinson works construction in Los Angeles and has had enough of the smog, the congestion and the job. His daughter Jenny's health worries him as well, so the family leaves the city for good. Pat, his wife, and the two children, Jenny and Toby, move to the Rocky Mountains, where Skip puts up a log cabin of his own beside a large lake. A few days after it is finished, he and Toby go hunting with their dog Crust and bring back a grouse. Climbing a rocky slope, the two are nearly caught in a landslide, and they find two young grizzly cubs whose mother was lost in the same slide. The family takes the cubs in, and a raccoon living near the cabin, Bandito, becomes a regular visitor.
