Plot summary
The USS Caine is a U.S. Navy ship on duty in the Persian Gulf. Lt. Philip Francis Queeg commands the vessel, and Lt. Stephen Maryk serves as its executive officer. Queeg shows potential signs of mental instability, and in a violent storm the safety of the ship is put at risk. Maryk takes control of the Caine from its captain. The Navy then charges Maryk with mutiny and brings him before a court-martial. Lt. Barney Greenwald, a skeptical JAG lawyer, is assigned to defend the officer, and he accepts the case reluctantly.
