Plot summary
After a 15-month combat tour in Iraq, Adam Schumann comes home to Kansas, a decorated soldier in a unit that has returned to the Fort Riley area. His wife, Saskia, and their two children wait for him, a daughter and a son born during the deployment. Adam has nightmares and flashbacks, and Saskia persuades him to seek help from the Department of Veterans Affairs, which is overburdened. Two of his Iraq friends live nearby: Solo Aieti, an American Samoan who credits the army with improving his life, and Billy Waller. Solo wants to return to the army and deploy to Iraq again.
