Plot summary
Henry Herschel is a reserved architect whose pregnant wife, Penny, dies in an accident. He keeps working on the house the two of them were building, but the job that once consumed him no longer holds his attention. Penny had asked him to help a young runaway, Millie, and Henry is drawn to the girl. Millie does not trust him at first, and the two form a cautious friendship. She wants to build a raft and cross the Atlantic to reach the father she lost at sea. Henry sets his work aside to help her.
