Shy Jay Kepler (16) always helps his classmate and neighbor Abby Jensen, whom he has a serious crush on, even in her bitter rivalry with rich neighbor and classmate Krista Cook. Against jay's warnings, Abby greedily accepts from fairy Celeste and uses hourly 16 wish candles to make come true her sweet sixteen wish list on the big day, which started miserably with a wasp plague rendering the Jensen house inhabitable. Although each comes true, the crucial ones backfire big time, robbing her of all that really matters. However in the process she comes to appreciate and reevaluate, just in time for a last chance twist.
