Plot summary
A compilation assembled from film archives, it surveys how dance has been recorded on screen. The survey runs from the years just after the movie camera was invented, through the Hollywood musicals of the late 1920s to the 1960s, and into break dance and the music videos of the 1980s. Five hosts introduce the selections, which go beyond one studio's own pictures to material made elsewhere. Among the excerpts is a dance routine from The Wizard of Oz that was shortened in the released picture and is shown here complete for the first time. An original song plays over the closing credits, and the film carries a dedication to dancers, above all those who worked before cameras could record them.
