Plot summary
Pippi Longstocking sails with her father, Captain Efraim Longstocking, her horse and her monkey, Mr. Nilsson. During a hurricane the captain is swept overboard, and as he drifts away he calls that he will meet Pippi at Villa Villekulla. Pippi and her animals make for the house to await him. Across the street she meets Tommy and Annika, who take to her free spirit, and they talk her into going to school, which she has never done, where she gets into trouble. A local social worker, Mrs. Prysselius, wants the girl put in foster care, and when she speaks to the police about it, two thieves in a cell, Bloom and Thunder-Karlsson, hear that Pippi lives alone with gold coins in the open and her door unlocked.
