Plot summary
Nazi spies are using a stolen shortwave transmitter to send secret shipping information to a Japanese submarine waiting offshore. FBI agent G. B. Fleming suspects radio signals are guiding the attacks, so the West Coast's radio specialists are dismissed from their jobs and watched, in the hope that the spies will hire one of them. Lewis J. Deerhold, an engineer who believes he lost his place because he is a Canadian citizen, looks after his niece Tina, a war orphan who needs a brain operation. With no wages to pay for it, he applies at a radio repair shop, where he recovers a snatched purse for Ann Patterson. His new boss is waiting at his apartment with Dr. Arthur Huneker and Vincent Bela, and Huneker offers him work repairing a transmitter.
