Roger Pryor
Biography
Roger Pryor was an American actor who began on the stage as a teenager and went on to leading roles in B movies. Born in New York City, he attended the Dwight School until his enthusiasm for performing outweighed his schooling. He made his stage debut in stock theater at 18 and worked with several repertory companies before reaching Broadway in productions such as The Royal Family, Saturday's Children and See Naples and Die. Between 1930 and 1945 he appeared in more than 50 films, often as the lead in B pictures, among them Belle of the Nineties opposite Mae West. He also hosted network radio programs, including The Screen Guild Theater and The United States Steel Hour, starred as Dan McGarry in McGarry and His Mouse, produced Cavalcade of America and led his own orchestra. In 1947 he became a broadcasting vice president at the Foote, Cone and Belding advertising agency.
