Plot summary
Walter Weed works a desk job at the FBI, and word reaches the Bureau that someone wants him dead before 3:00 am on April 19. The contract, put out by a figure known as Hal Leuco, draws killers from several directions: Ariella Martinez, who favors exotic poisons; Finbar McTeague, called The Surgeon; Lazlo Soot, a master of disguise; and Fritz Tremor with his children Lester, Kaitlyn and Baby Boy. An FBI unit led by Zane Baker moves Weed into a bunker beneath a safe house dressed as a jazz bar. Agents Nicholas and Redstone guard him directly, Malcolm Little runs the staff posing as patrons, and Dominic Dumare watches the operation from a nearby hotel. The assassins arrive in Chicago separately and close in.
