Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Heat (2013)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The Heat was screenwriter Katie Dippold's feature film debut: she wrote the spec script on the side while fulfilling her writing duties on Parks and Recreation, and it sold to producer Peter Chernin for $600,000 before it was even presented to prospective bidders.
- On May 19, 2012 director Paul Feig and actresses Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy signed on, after deals had previously struggled to close over scheduling and payment conflicts; at that point the film was still called The Untitled Female Buddy Cop Comedy.
- Dippold took her cue from buddy cop films such as Running Scared and Lethal Weapon but wanted women in the leads: she remembered the montage of the men on scooters with "a different hot girl on the back every time it cuts back", adding, "I don't want to be the girl on the back of the scooter."
- Producer Jenno Topping said there were people suspicious of the attempt, who thought girls would not want to see a cop action movie and guys would not want to see two girls holding guns, so the film would cancel out its potential audience.
- In October 2013 Bullock stated that she would not return for the sequel and the project was put on hold; it was reportedly to be replaced by a spin-off centerd on Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin's characters Beth and Gina from the first film.
