Plot summary
Romy, a Parisian, is vacationing in California with her husband Richard. One night at a bar, Richard drinks heavily. In their hotel room he tries to rape her, and she defends herself by hitting his head with a lamp. Believing she has killed him, she escapes. She buys a car and flees, setting out alone on a journey across the United States.
